This exemplary ocean kayak guide’s course is offered through the partnership of:
Bruce Wilson of Wild Whisper Consulting and Guide Services
Gord Pincock of Butterfly Tours - Sea Kayak Haida Gwaii
As your instructors, we have logged more than fifty years of paddling and wilderness guiding experience. Our knowledge and unique lifestyles combine with the challenging north Pacific and the lush temperate rainforest to provide this exceptional program. Through well over a decade of partnership, our course has developed into a highly effective, motivational and inspirational experience.
The course takes place during six days of kayaking and camping on Canada's west coast. Food, meal preparations, tents and Seaward Tyee TX single kayaks are provided. Our group size is eight participants. In order to maximize your ability to focus on course materials, each trip includes two instructors plus a full-time cook.
Providing Canada's only 6-day dual-certification kayak leadership course.
The following two guide certifying organizations endorse our curriculum:
The Association of Canadian Sea Kayak Guides was the first organization to have their standards approved by Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve & Haida Heritage Site. ACSKG standards are the benchmark against which all other standards are evaluated.
ACSKG and CFOKE certified assistant sea kayak guides are qualified to work in Pacific Rim and Gwaii Haanas National Parks as professional assistant guides on overnight and multi-day wilderness sea kayak expeditions. Numerous other government agencies and private businesses around the world also recognize Canada's high certification standards.
Our course provides opportunities to develop skills through experiential learning. During controlled simulations, participants experiment with a wide variety of guiding tools, leadership styles and paddling techniques. Bruce and Gord’s refined educational approach focuses on each participant’s individual learning style. Our suggested reading list is provided for your interest.
Guides are the quintessential evolution of human beings; we are required to be all things to all people. Guides must provide safe and stimulating learning environments in diverse and challenging conditions. On a daily basis, guides are seen as mentors, educators, leaders and peers. We must remain true to the principles of honesty, integrity, empathy, compassion and communication, while facilitating rewarding, lifetime experiences with our guests.
Evolution Guide School values the challenges and motivations that bring people to the profession of guiding. We recognize the need for understanding who we are, so that we can each make the most of our strengths and unique qualities.
Evolution Guide School exists to facilitate your progress along this path.
