    Included
  • Two professional, certified and experienced guide instructors.
  • Quality tents, tarps, chart cases, deck compasses and tide tables.
  • Nutritious food and full-time cook.
  • Participant on the Clayoquot Sound course are provided with laminated nautical charts.  (Queen Charlotte Islands course participants are requested to provide their own laminated charts.)
  • Seaward Tyee TX single kayaks, paddles, sprayskirts, PFDs, tow-lines and pumps.
  • Instructors will carry advanced wilderness first aid kits, marine flares, VHF radios, cell phones, an Iridium 9505A satellite phone, as well as the 406 PLB - a satellite-detected emergency personal locator beacon.
  • A detailed equipment list will be provided upon registration.


    Not Included
  • Transportation to Tofino or Sandspit.
  • Accommodation in Tofino or Sandspit prior to and following the course.
  • Sleeping bag & pad, appropriate clothing, eating utensils and items of a personal nature.
  • Participants are requested to provide their own mirrored, declination adjusting orienteering compass.  Alternately, we have compasses available for purchase during the course.

Transportation Options

Course participants are often able to coordinate ride-sharing.  Please contact us if you would like to receive the email addresses of other course participants.  (Also, please contact us if you would prefer not to have your email address provided to other course participants.)

Clayoquot Sound course participants have several transportation options for their journey to Tofino, including car, bus or aircraft.  For details, please see the Tofino Tourism Guide.

Accommodation Options

For accommodation in Tofino prior to and following the course, we highly recommend the Paddler's Inn, operated by Tofino Sea Kayaking Company.  The Paddler's Inn is located at 320 Main Street in Tofino, which is where we meet on the first day of the course.  Their phone number is 250 725-4222.

For accommodation in Sandspit on the Queen Charlotte Islands, we recommend Seaport B&B; phone 250 637-5698.  Accommodation in Sandspit is limited, especially on weekends; we encourage you to make reservations as soon as possible.
